Uakari
Imperial Stout aged in Apple Brandy + Amburana and Bourbon Barrels and finished with Madagascar VanillaAt Half Acre, we’re not timid about adjuncts and have every intention of loading our barrel program with intensity, but we also crave an order and avoid full clown car beers. Uakari is our first beer using Amburana, a South American wood that can impart seductive qualities of cinnamon, spice, and tannin, but can also wreak havoc if not careful of extraction. Outside of a slight finish of Madagascar Vanilla as a cohesive bonding feature, Uakari is all giant base beer paired with really great lumber. Three different base components had parallel tracks that saw Apple Brandy and Blantons barrels before a portion went to Amburana barrels for a very short residency.
A big pour and you’d swear we lied to you. The apple cinnamon emanating from this beer is the stuff of tech companies, but it’s just the essentials. Out of the gate, a wonderful apple and cinnamon handshake with undercurrents of black cherry fruit leather, chocolate licorice, and the deep dark chocolate that we all say is healthy before eating just one/six more squares. Big puff mouth feel, the weight you’d hope, and a modest ABV to see the entire can disappear lickity split. It’s a full catalogue of barrel classics with some new found flare coming from the land of exotic creatures, like the bald Uakari. Grab your favorite primates and give this one a twirl.
