Kitchen Manager

Job Summary

The Kitchen Manager reports to the Head of Hospitality and is charged with maintaining a safe and positive working environment. The Kitchen Manager oversees daily operations to ensure the successful running of the kitchen and food program at Half Acre, both financially and by providing leadership to kitchen employees.

Successful applicants for this position must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manages finances -P+L, costing, and budgets- for all kitchen operations to ensure limited resources are used wisely
  • Create prep lists and order guides
  • Create the weekly schedule monitoring overtime and responding to staff requests
  • Provides ongoing, constructive feedback and effective coaching that is tailored to individual employee needs, focusing on strong team leadership and mentorship
  • Oversee service to ensure prompt delivery of food that meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Manage hiring, training, and performance reviews with assistance from the Head of Hospitality
  • Provide clear, consistent, timely, respectful communications with kitchen and FOH team
  • Holds self and others accountable and pursues excellence.
  • Present on the floor during peak times of operation and during special occasions to provide guidance and supervision to the staff
  • Ensure kitchen and staff are in up to date and in compliance with trainings and health code regulations
  • Create daily orders for food and supplies and submit them with an eye for pricing and timeliness
  • Completes weekly and monthly inventory (monthly inventory submitted for accounting)
  • Ensure uniform serving sizes and quality of food
  • Point of contact for ordering, inventory, and event preparation
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas for cleanliness and functionality
  • Monitor sanitation practices and follow kitchen safety standards

Required Skills

  • At least 1 year of BOH experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills and abilities
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Reliable and predictable attendance
  • Must have working computer knowledge (Microsoft Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Food Handlers Card / ServSafe Certification / City of Chicago Sanitation required

Beneficial Experience

  • At least 1 year of BOH experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills and abilities
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Reliable and predictable attendance
  • Must have working computer knowledge (Microsoft Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Food Handlers Card / ServSafe Certification / City of Chicago Sanitation required

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for 10 hours with applicable breaks
  • Must be able to lift or maneuver 50 pounds (cases of food)
